Marcus James Marlin, lovingly known as "Papaw," passed away peacefully at his home in Granbury, Texas, on the morning of December 12, 2025.
Marcus was born on June 29, 1937, in Melbourne, Arkansas, to Ernest and Cassie Marlin. He lived a life defined by hard work, faith, family and service to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Cassie Marlin; his sister, Ernestine Marlin; his beloved wife, Margaret Marlin; his sons-in-law, James Sumrall and Robert Jarvis IV; and his special friend and companion, Lanelle Hyde.
Marcus is survived by his daughters, Teresa Sumrall and Felicia Jarvis; his granddaughter, Kristine Stafford and husband Ryan; his grandson, Jason Sumrall and wife Alexandria; his great-grandchildren, Gracie and Wyatt Sumrall; and a wide circle of friends and extended family.
Marcus retired from Pittsburgh Paints after many years of dedicated service. During his career, he made history as the first Regional Sales Manager to achieve membership in the Million Dollar Sales Club – an honor he earned multiple times.
Marcus' faith was central to his life. He faithfully served as a deacon, usher and greeter at his church. He was also an active member of the community, serving on several committees within Pecan Plantation, Lakeside Baptist Church and Granbury Opera Guild.
A devoted fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Marcus also had a deep love for the outdoors. He cherished playing golf with his grandson at Pecan Plantation and spent many happy hours fishing for rainbow trout on the White River or catfish with family and friends at Squaw Creek. He was a classic country music enthusiast and enjoyed the performing arts. He generously volunteered his time at the Granbury Opera House.
Marcus will be remembered for his strong work ethic, servant's heart, love for his family and his unwavering faith. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Loaves and Fishes at Lakeside Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury, Texas from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Lakeside Baptist Church, Granbury, Texas beginning at 11:00 am.
Burial will follow at Acton Cemetery.
