Margaret H. Abate
January 8, 1932 – October 4, 2025
Margaret H. Abate passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, at the age of 93. She is survived by her devoted husband, Francis D. Abate, with whom she shared a long and loving life.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Margaret was an identical twin to her beloved sister Edith, who passed away in 1988 and whom Margaret missed dearly every day. Together, they were part of a close-knit family of six children. Margaret is now joyfully reunited in heaven with her siblings who passed before her.
A devoted Catholic, Margaret centered her life around her faith and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth, wit, and strength touched everyone she met.
A dedicated homemaker, Margaret took great pride in creating a beautiful and loving home for her family. She moved many times with her husband and children as Francis pursued his career as an executive with the railroad, embracing every new place with grace and optimism. Wherever she went, she made lasting friendships and found joy in building community.
Margaret was exceptionally talented and had a true zest for life. Known for her sharp mind, she loved keeping busy with puzzles and other challenges. A woman of great style, she had an eye for fashion and always carried herself with elegance. She was also an amazing Italian cook, famous among her family for her delicious meals and for bringing everyone together around the table.
She loved to travel and spent many happy years enjoying her homes in Naples, Florida, and Ocean City, Maryland. In her later years, she continued to live life to the fullest, cherishing her time playing card games and enjoying the company of her many dear friends at Parkers Bend.
Margaret was the cherished mother of Dianne DaTorre (Dr. Steven DaTorre) and Kenneth Abate (Stacy Single). She was the proud grandmother of Dr. Daniel DaTorre, Jacqueline DaTorre (fiancé Jeremy Wallis), Ashley Abate, Ryan Abate, and Christian Abate, and the beloved great-grandmother of Jeremy Abate.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Margaret's life at her Viewing on Friday, October 10th, from 9:45 to 10:45 AM at the Church of St. Isaac Jogues, 349 Evesboro-Medford Road, Marlton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM, with entombment at Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's name to the Church of St. Isaac Jogues at the above address or online at www.cosij.org.

Approximately forty years ago I met Margaret H. Abate and eventually became her son-in law. Over the years, I realized how special Marge (affectionately grandma) was as a person, wife, mother and grandmother. I respected and loved her. She was unique in her ability to recognize when a family member or friend needed help. When my mother passed, Marge assured me that she and Frank would always be there. Words I will never forget. I have been blessed to have Marge in my life. She will live in my heart forever.
Love,
Steve
