It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Margaret Jakubowski (O’Connor), born November 9, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, and her beloved husband Walter “Butch” Jakubowski, born July 10, 1942, in Bayonne, NJ. The two were tragically taken in a car accident on August 23, 2025. They are survived by their children: Dorene (Ben), Sean (Heather), and Mark (Silvana), who will forever carry the love and lessons they instilled, as well as their beloved grandchildren: Tyler, Connor, and McKenna (Dorene); Kyla, Logan, and Hayden (Sean); and Jaxon (Mark).
Margaret and Butch shared a love that was unmatched and they were inseparable. After marrying in 1971, they built a life together marked by devotion to each other, their family, and their friends. Known for their warmth, humor, and deep connection, they were always by each other’s side, whether in moments of joy or challenge. Their partnership was a shining example of loyalty and love, and their bond has left an indelible mark on all who knew them.
Throughout their lives, Margaret and Butch were true pillars of their community, remembered for their generosity, compassion, and unwavering kindness. Butch honorably served in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964, a role he carried with great pride. The two first crossed paths on separate ski trips, where a chance encounter turned into love at first sight. From that moment forward, they were inseparable. Together, they built a home that was always open—welcoming family, friends, and anyone in need of a warm meal, a kind word, or a helping hand.
Margaret’s nurturing spirit and Butch’s steadfast strength were the heart of their family. Butch’s quick wit and Margaret’s boundless sense of humor brought joy and laughter to every gathering, leaving memories that will be cherished forever. Together, they created a foundation of love that will continue to support their children, grandchildren, and all who loved them. Though we grieve their loss, we take comfort in knowing that they are together again, as they always were.
A service to honor Margaret and Butch will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Moloney Family Funeral Homes, 1320 Lakeland Avenue, Bohemia, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Cure HHT or Saving Grace Animals for Adoption, causes close to their hearts.
Margaret and Butch, you will forever be remembered, cherished, and loved. May you rest in peace.
