Margaret Kimball Darling, 85, of Fiskdale, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025. She was surrounded by family as well as her pastor, Dan Maketansky, and friends from Holland Congregational Church, in Sturbridge, MA.
Margaret was born in Worcester MA, on September 9, 1939; the daughter of Herbert Cowling Kimball and Helen Crawford Lingham. Margaret was raised in Southbridge, MA with her beloved dog Jerry and graduated from Mary E. Wells High School. She attended Elon University inNorth Carolina and later gained a certification in Early Childhood Education.
Margaret and her former husband Robert Darling had two sons, the late Robert Darling Jr. and Roger Darling (Carol ) of Vas, North Carolina. She was the very proud grandmother of Allison, Abigail, and Annabelle. Her son Roger spent three days with his mother immediately prior to her death, which brought her great joy.
For many years, Margaret worked in the Walmart Garden center, first in Hawaii and then in Massachusetts. In her later years, Margaret was active with the Sturbridge Senior Center, working with Leslie Wong. The Senior Center was a major part of her life. Margaret was an active and beloved member of the Holland Congregational Church; her church community became a second family to her. The Holland Church was a significant source of strength and happiness for many years, and she always appreciated their care and support.
Margaret was a diehard Red Sox fan from an early age and followed the Boston sports scene with devoted enthusiasm. She was a long-time member of the BoSox club. In true Margaret form, she died with a Red Sox blanket on her bed.
Preceding her in death was her former husband Robert, her son Robert Jr., and her older sister Dorothy Hart.
She is survived by her older brother Philip Kimball, his wife Eleanor, and her younger sister Eleanor Gosh and her husband Charlie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, April 26th at the Holland Congregational Church, 11 Sturbridge Road, Holland, MA.
In lieu of flowers, Margaret hoped people would make a donation to The Jimmy Fund (jimmyfund.org/gift.
