Margaret Saltz Justus, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Advent Hospital. Born on December 06, 1927 in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and was an original Henderson County native.
Margaret graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1944, and after graduation she worked at Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator for several years. While in high school she met the cute sailor she was to marry. Elbert and Margaret were married on April 3, 1948. They were married 56 years before Elbert passed away in December 2004. Margaret and Elbert loved to travel and take cruises. They also loved to spend winter months in Florida where Elbert continued to grow citrus fruit in addition to the large apple orchard they owned and worked in Edneyville.
Margaret was known for her baking and cooking skills. In the late 1950's and early 1960's she was a member of the Henderson County Curb Market with her mother-in-law Lexine. Three days a week, Margaret baked the best cakes, yeast breads, pies and cinnamon rolls ever tasted and were sold out within hours. More recently, she was known in the community for her fried apple pies, and pumpkin bread and if she had sweets in her house, visitors always left with samples she had made.
Margaret is survived by two children, Karen Davison (Mickey) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Timothy E. Justus (Susan) of Edneyville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Brian Dalton (Keisha) of Lenoir City, Tennessee, Cody Justus of Raleigh, North Carolina, CayCee Justus of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Glen James Davison (Kristi) of Dripping Springs, Texas. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Shelby Dalton of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Ian Davison and Bodie Davison of Dripping Springs, Texas.
Preceded in death are her loving husband, Elbert B. Justus; her parents, Hannah Hill Saltz and John Calvin Saltz; and her two sisters, Caroline Saltz Lytle of Dana, North Carolina and Ellen Saltz Setzer of Victoria, Virginia.
The family is appreciative for the care that Terra Bella Senior Living and Universal Healthcare gave Margaret in the last two years. A special thank you to the incredible staff on the 3 floor of Advent Hospital that loved and cared for Margaret during the last two weeks.
The family will receive friends at the family home at 122 Cody Trail, Hendersonville, North Carolina on Monday, May 15, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Edneyville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Edneyville United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 87, Edneyville, North Carolina 28727.
The family appreciates the love and support from many extended family and friends over the years.
