Margaret Ann (Tower) May of Millis left this earthly life on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Sunrise Senior Living of Norwood. Margaret passed quietly with her husband Fred, daughter Lydia and son Donald by her bedside.
Margaret was born on Valentine's Day 1935 in Medford, MA to parents Frank Tower and Margaret (Lockhart). The majority of Margaret's early life was spent living at St. Anne's Episcopal School in Arlington, MA where she made several lifelong friends. On February 19, 1955, she married Frederick May whom she remained married to for 68 years until her death.
Margaret and new husband Fred moved briefly to upstate New York where she gave birth to her first son Carl in 1956. In 1957, the new family returned to the Boston area and purchased a home in Millis which remained their home until they moved into assisted living in 2019. The family quickly grew when their second son Donald was born in 1958 and a daughter Lydia was born in 1959.
She became an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Millis for over 50 years. Margaret had a lifelong love of music and sang in the choir at St. Paul's and later at St. Michael's of Holliston. In 1976 she sang in with the Millis Bicentennial Chorus that later became the Charles River Chorale. She sang with the Chorale for over 30 years.
Crafts were always a part of Margaret's life with painting, sewing, knitting and crocheting all being practiced. Many babies were the recipients of knitted outfits made by Margaret. Margaret cared deeply for all people, especially children. She participated more than 25 times in the local Walk For Hunger. Margaret's love of Church and family guided her entire life.
A love of travel and camping with her family took her to Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and coast-to-coast in the US and Canada. She particularly loved a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
Margaret worked several jobs in her life from veterinary surgical assistant to machine shop operator and later as a well-loved home health aide for more than 20 years.
Margaret is survived by a sister Ruth Hart of Reno, Nevada. In addition to her husband Fred of Norwood, she leaves her son Carl and wife Barbara of Oklahoma, son Donald and his wife Kathy of Milford, MA and her daughter Lydia and her long-time companion Edward Kaiser of Norfolk. She had 2 grandchildren whom she loved dearly and was so proud of their accomplishments; Christian May of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Lyntessa May of Millis, MA.
A memorial service for Margaret is being planned for early summer.
