Margaret Mary (Sheehan) McCarthy, of Randolph, formerly of Tahilla, Sneem, Country Kerry, Ireland, a cherished soul and beacon of love, passed away peacefully at her home on October 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 85. Born on August 20, 1940, in the quaint village of Tahilla, Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland, Margaret's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, and an unwavering spirit of kindness that touched everyone she knew.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (O'Sullivan) Sheehan, Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Johnny McCarthy, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories and love. She was a loving mother, survived by her children: Daniel McCarthy of Randolph, Maureen Bamberry of Westwood, and John McCarthy of Randolph. She was predeceased by her son, the late Thomas McCarthy. Margaret was a devoted sister to Catherine Hagan of Chicago, IL, and was preceded in death by her sisters Antoinette Violandi and Josephine Vejvoda. Her role as Nana was cherished by her grandchildren Meagan Mofford, Tommy Douglas, and Emily Collier, and she adored being Great Nana to Maya Mofford. Margaret's warmth extended to her many nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly.
Margaret's educational journey began at St. Francis Xavier Academy in vicksburg, MS, where she graduated high school. After high school, she continued her education at a nursing program in Massachusetts. Margaret was a dedicated Operating Room Nurse, a career she held with great pride until her retirement from Milton Hospital. Her colleagues will remember her as a pillar of strength, compassion, and professionalism.
Her interests painted the picture of a life rich with joy and tradition. An ardent dog lover, Margaret found companionship and delight in her four-legged friends.
She also was an excellent cook, known for her delectable St. Patrick's Day boiled dinners, which became a cherished tradition for family and friends alike. Her banana bread and Irish bread were a family favorite.
Margaret had a deep fondness for dancing, and was very involved in both of her granddaughters irish step dancing journey for many years, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She held a special place in her heart for the festive spirit of the holidays. Every year, family, friends and neighbors looked forward to her famous Christmas Eve parties.
Described by those who knew her as loving, kind, and generous, Margaret's legacy is one of boundless love and selfless giving. Her presence was a comfort to many, and her absence will be felt deeply. In her life, Margaret embodied the true spirit of giving, not just through her career but in every interaction and relationship she nurtured.
As we bid farewell to Margaret, we celebrate a life well-lived. Her laughter, love, and lessons will continue to guide us, and her story will be told for generations to come.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 23rd, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St., Randolph. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 24th, at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church, 211 No. Main St., Randolph. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
