Margaret "Peg" McKenna, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, in Palm Coast, Florida, just days after celebrating her 96th birthday.
Born and raised in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to Joseph Breivogel and Margaret Breivogel [Irwin], Peg lived a life marked by love, resilience, and devotion to God and family. Peg graduated from Edgewood Park Junior College and shortly after graduation met and married her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" McKenna. They shared 50 wonderful years together in Edison, NJ, where they raised an extraordinary family of 20 children. As her children grew and had families of their own, she would look forward to the annual vacation in Nags Head, NC where the families would gather and find her body surfing in the waves, taking bikes rides for ice cream and reading on the beach.
She was an avid reader of diverse literature and always enjoyed spirited discussions of current events. She was the family "hub". On any given day you would find her family and their friends gathered around her dining room table partaking in her daily homemade "Three O'clock" snacks and participating in lively discussions. Family and friends would stream in and out long after they had grown and moved away. In her later years, as she added jigsaw puzzling to her interests, one could walk in and find another family member visiting, standing or sitting at the puzzle table adding their piece to the project.
When she and Bob retired, they would winter in Ormond Beach, Florida enjoying their "quiet" time together. After Bob's passing, she continued her Ormond Beach winter stay until 2022 when she moved there permanently, relocating to Palm Coast, Florida in 2024.
Peg was predeceased by her husband Bob, daughters Kathleen and Eileen, son-in-law Lee, daughter-in-law Deborah and grandson Sean. She is survived by her sons; Michael (Betty Anne), Peter, Mark (Rosa), Stephen (Tara), Christopher (Loretta), Matthew (Lynn), Richard (Rainey), and Brian (Amanda); her daughters Patricia, Mary, Maureen Oswald (John), Sharon Sanders (Dave), Shelia Meyler (Bob), Colleen Latario (Brian), Barbara Lanzilotta (John), Margaret "Meg" Morreale (John), Julia Lawall (Dan), and Bridget Welch (Travis); her grandchildren, great-grandchildren; her sister Isabel (Wee) McCormick, and her nieces and nephews. Her legacy lives on through her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each touched by her warmth and wisdom.
Peg was a lifelong Catholic who was active in her faith and a parishioner at St. Helena's in Edison since its founding and attended St Brendan's in Ormond Beach. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life-crafting, baking, bike rides, gardening, and long walks on the beach. Her gentle spirit and unwavering strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Peg's life will be held December 6, 2025, at St Helena Roman Catholic Church, Edison NJ, followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, in honor of Peg's generous heart.
