It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Cecelia Niehoff, lovingly known as "Tooty" by some of her family and friends. Born on July 21, 1940, in Portage, Wisconsin, Margaret was a devoted wife and mother who spent much of her life creating a warm and loving home in West Allis, Wisconsin.
Margaret grew up on a farm, where she developed a lifelong love for animals and had a dog named Trixie. Later in life, she filled her home in West Allis with the beauty of butterflies and found joy in the squirrels and birds that visited her yard, as well as the beloved pet dogs that shared her days.
In her earlier years, Margaret enjoyed dancing with her husband, Elmer. Her sons, Scott and Todd, have fond memories of coming home from school to the aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, and they especially looked forward to the cinnamon sugar pie crusts she made from leftover dough. She enjoyed visiting family to play cards and having friends and family at their home. Sandy, her stepdaughter, also recalls fond memories of Sunday visits and playing Aggravation, with homemade treats like hot dogs wrapped in bacon and cheese.
Though her primary role was raising her family, Margaret took on part-time work when needed, contributing to several companies over the years, including Grebe's Bakery, Masterlock, Charter Hospital, Lakeview Hospital, and a candy company. She loved to share jokes clipped from the newspaper during family visits.
Margaret was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church Mother of Perpetual Help (Mary Queen of Heaven), where her faith was a guiding force in her life. Todd fondly recalls her unwavering support during a particularly tough time in college, always offering words of encouragement. Margaret also helped Sandy in a motherly role at times, offering guidance and support when it was needed most.
She had a sentimental side and treasured the personal touches from others-if you sent her a card, letter, or picture, you could be certain she kept it. In her later years, she found enjoyment in watching game shows, always intrigued by the unique grooming and clothing styles of the contestants. Margaret leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and warmth. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM with Mass to follow at 5:00 PM. Both will be held at Mother of Perpetual Help Parish (Mary Queen of Heaven) 2322 South 106 Street, West Allis, Wisconsin.
