Margaret Elizabeth Boston Van Huizen, 85, affectionately known as "Peggy," left this world peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Twin Lakes Coble Creek. She was born on April 9, 1940 in Cambridge, Maryland, and she will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Peggy graduated from Howard High School in Howard County, MD, then obtained her BS in Home Economics from Hood College in Frederick, MD, and earned her Master of Early Childhood Education Degree from Salisbury State University in Salisbury, MD. She became a dedicated educator and member of the Maryland State Teachers Association. Peggy taught Home Economics at Cambridge High School. She later retired as a kindergarten teacher from Sandy Hill Elementary School in Maryland. Her dedication for teaching earned her the distinguished title of Dorchester County Teacher of the Year during her tenure at Sandy Hill Elementary.
Peggy found joy in many interests outside of her professional endeavors, and she had a profound love for both reading and exploring new places. She was a long-time member of the Dorchester Garden Club.
Upon retirement, Peggy and her husband, Dr. Pieter “Piet” Van Huizen V, moved to the Twin Lakes community in Elon, North Carolina. Both Peggy and Piet enjoyed travelling and exploring new places, including a three-month cruise around the world. Faith was an integral part of her life, as she and Piet were cherished members of the handbell choir at Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, MD. They then became members of the First United Methodist Church of Elon.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Dr. Pieter "Piet" Van Huizen V, who stood by her through every phase of life. She is also remembered by her sister, Ellen Rindfuss, and her husband Bruce; her nephew, David Allen Bandel, and his wife Amy; her niece, Cheryl Bandel Wingate, and her husband Scott; as well as two great nieces and one great nephew.
She has now been reunited with her beloved parents, William Theodore "Ted" Boston and Sarah Elizabeth Bassett Boston; her sister, Marilyn Boston Bandel; and a niece, Laura Kristine "Krissy" Rindfuss. Peggy honored the memories of these loved ones throughout her life.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00pm Monday, December 8, 2025 at Twin Lakes May-Foley Chapel by Pastor Patrick Cardwell and Rev. Jesse Baker.
