Born on September 29, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Dorothy and Dr. Myron Nourse, Marti was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She moved to Southern California in 1980, where she built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. In 2003, she made Palm Desert her home.
Marti enjoyed a long and successful career in the apparel industry. A fashion-forward trendsetter, her journey began in Los Angeles as a women's apparel buyer and led her to prominent roles at Nike in Beaverton, Oregon, and Reebok in Boston, Massachusetts. Her work took her around the world-from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics to destinations across Asia Pacific and Europe-marking a career defined by talent, passion, and perseverance.
Marti is survived by her children, Jay Umphrey (Karen) and Leslie Umphrey; her three grandchildren, Brendan (Christy) (great-granddaughters Isabella and Sophia), Ryan and Jayson. She is also survived by her brother, Bob Nourse (Linda); nieces and nephews Cheryl, Andy (Moni), Brian (Somer), and Debbi (Armand); several great-nieces; great-nephews and cousins.
Arrangements are being handled by Rose Mortuary Services in Rancho Mirage, California. A private celebration of life will be held for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
