Margarita Valenzuela Cortez was born on September 10th, 1950 to parents Ernesto Vargas Cortez and Juanita Valenzuela Valdez in Van Horn, Texas. In life, Margarita dedicated herself to the children of her family and community by working as a teacher's aid. She is remembered for being a mother figure to her nieces and nephew and her devotion to her faith. Margarita had the ability to light up the darkest room, a contagious laugh, and the ability to see life with a child's heart.
Margarita Cortez is preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, Sista Valenzuela; and her brothers, Bobby Valdez and Eddie Valdez.
She is survived by her sisters, Juanita (Natividad) Mendiola and Brenda (Steve) Zackmeyer; her brother, David (Joyce) Valdez; her nieces, Celia (Douglas Rippy) Mendiola, Catherine (Johnny) Greenwood, Cristella (Victor Cardenas) Mendiola; and her nephew, Natividad (Jessica) Mendiola Jr.; many beloved great nieces and nephews, and great great nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 21st, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary to take place at 6:30 PM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. A morning visitation will be held the following day, Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. The burial will immediately follow at San Jose Burial Park.
