Maria Lucinda Chavarria went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born on November 29, 1932, in Placitas, New Mexico, to Hugo Carreras and Petra Provencio Carreras, Lucy lived a life full of love and joy.

Lucy was one of six siblings: Nellie Atencio, Mila Gomez, Claudina Tarin, Richard Carreras, and Cecilia Sanchez. She was married to the late Benjamin C. Chavarria and completed her education up to the 7th grade.

Lucy had a passion for reading and playing bingo, and she especially cherished the time spent with family during holiday gatherings. Her surviving children are Abel Chavarria (Judy), Perla Chavarria (Nick), and Belinda Smith (James). She was preceded in death by her son, Benjamin C. Chavarria Jr.

Lucy was a beloved grandmother to Irish Valdez, Carmen Gamboa, Cecilia Schultz, Catrina Mead, Michelle Randolph, Nova Peña, Roxi Peña, Mona Chavarria, and Albert Gutierrez. She also had ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents, Hugo and Petra Carreras, her brother Richard Carreras, and her sisters Nellie Atencio, Claudina Tarin, and Cecilia Sanchez, Lucy will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

As per Lucy's request, there will be no memorial services. Her family will hold her memory close in their hearts and honor her in their own special ways.
