Lucy was one of six siblings: Nellie Atencio, Mila Gomez, Claudina Tarin, Richard Carreras, and Cecilia Sanchez. She was married to the late Benjamin C. Chavarria and completed her education up to the 7th grade.
Lucy had a passion for reading and playing bingo, and she especially cherished the time spent with family during holiday gatherings. Her surviving children are Abel Chavarria (Judy), Perla Chavarria (Nick), and Belinda Smith (James). She was preceded in death by her son, Benjamin C. Chavarria Jr.
