Maria Luisa Del Moral, 80, a resident of the Beaverton community, passed away on February 25, 2025, at the OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center in Hillsboro.
Maria was born on February 21, 1945, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. She was the fifth of six children born to Bernardino Vasquez and Catalina Vila. She was raised in Ponce and moved to Brooklyn, NY, in her early twenties.
Her childhood friend, Jose R. Maldonado, had also moved to Brooklyn, and they became romantically involved. They married on May 31, 1971, in Brooklyn, NY. In their early years, they moved around so Jose could find steady work. In 1975, they settled in Ephrata, PA. They had two daughters together, Katherine and Maria "Lisa". They later divorced in 1981. In 1982 Maria and her children moved for a short time to San Fransico, CA. She met her future husband, Gonzalo Del Moral, through mutual friends, and they married on June 19, 1994, in Reno, NV. They made their home in Daly City, CA, until 2013, when Maria moved to Beaverton, OR, to be closer to her daughters. Gonzalo passed away in 2016.
When she moved to the United States, Maria worked as a seamstress in many New York and Pennsylvania factories. Her primary role was being a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her family. She enjoyed dancing and Folk Puerto Rican music, listening to Tony Croatto, Julio Iglesias, and American artists like Kenny Rogers. Maria always found it in her heart to help others by volunteering her time or with small donations. She loved being a grandmother and a great-grandmother. She was also a wonderful homemaker and a great cook.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, and two siblings, Francisco and Milagros.
She is survived by her two children and their spouses, Katherine and Roger Hernandez of Mt Dora, FL., Maria "Lisa" and Moises Rodriguez of Hillsboro. Three siblings, Carmen Lydia Vasquez Vila, Luz Maria Vasquez Vila, and Jorge Vasquez Vila, five grandchildren (Yesenia Cholula, Deisy Haid, Vanessa Hairston, Jonathan Hernandez, and Sophia Rodriguez), and four great-grandchildren (Sara Haid, Maya Haid, Aida Haid, and Ismari Hairston).
