Maria Dobbs Obituary

The oldest of eight children, Maria was born and raised in New York City, and was exceedingly proud of her Puerto Rican heritage. She was a Vietnam era veteran of the United States Women's Army Corps and a proud soldier. Being a veteran meant the world to her but in her own words, her greatest achievement will always be raising her children and instilling in them the values she held dear. She was blessed with the opportunity to raise her children in Germany, Alaska, Washington, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. While in Pennsylvania she met Laura and her two children increasing her number of children and beginning a love and romance that would span thirty five years.
Maria was proud of the work she did helping women and families as a domestic violence advocate in Pennsylvania and Virginia where she worked for social services in Prince William County. Her last employment at Disney World in Orlando Florida allowed her to enjoy her love of all things Disney.
Maria was a quilter extraordinaire and loved to knit and crochet for herself and her family.
She was loving and generous with a kind word for everyone and her smile could tame the fiercest soul. Maria went by many names, Mom, Momma, Granma, Grandmom, Meemaw, Meri and Mi Amor.
Maria is survived by her loving wife and partner of thirty five years, Laura E Perez, her children: Diana Geary, Steven P Dobbs Jr, Christopher Dobbs, Laura Churchill, Rafael Pagan Jr (stepson), and Angelina Pagan (stepdaughter); Grandchildren: Emily Geary, Isabel Geary, Olivia Dobbs, Chloe Dobbs, Adel Dobbs, Mason Churchill, Smith Churchill, and Mila Luz Rivera.
Her father: Vidal Ortiz Santiago.
Siblings: Vidal Ortiz, Diana Ortiz, Edgar Ortiz, Sonia Ortiz, Tony Ortiz, Betty Ortiz and Edward Ortiz.
Maria is preceded in death by her mother, Paulita Ortiz Davila, her ex-husband Steven Phillip Dobbs Sr and grandson Steven Jadiel Dobbs.
A memorial service will be held on Monday September 22, 2025 at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home 4143 Dale Blvd in Dale City, VA
