Maria T. Gentle passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, at Toni & Trish House, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Born on October 7, 1945, in New Braunfels, Texas, Maria lived a life rich in love and connections, leaving behind a legacy of friendships and cherished memories.
Known for her remarkable ability to connect with people, Maria had a strong work ethic, she served most of her life as a waitress, forging bonds that transcended the transactional nature of her work. Her friendly demeanor and gift for conversation made her a beacon of joy to those around her. At the heart of her existence was a profound commitment to her faith as a devoted member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, where she found solace and community.
Maria was not only dedicated to her work and church but also had a passion for cooking and shopping, activities that brought her immense joy. However, nothing compared to the delight she experienced while spending time with her family. She treasured every moment shared, nurturing relationships that were enriched by laughter and love.
Maria leaves behind her beloved husband of 31 years, Matthew Gentle, who has been a steadfast partner through their journey together. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Angela (Larry) Covarrubias-Mitchell and Michael (Joan) Covarrubias. The joyful laughter of her grandchildren, Joseph (Diana) Covarrubias, Earl Mitchell, and Maria Mitchell. The joy of being a grandmother was magnified by the presence of her great-grandchildren, Landon Covarrubias and Milo Covarrubias.
Her loving spirit will also live on through her siblings: Felix Garcia, Junior Garcia, Sophie Saenz, Helen Garcia, Gloria (Wally) Chatfield, Ramon (Debbie) Garcia, Johnny (Genna) Garcia, and Margie (Mark) Gettel, each of whom carries a piece of her memory in their hearts.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Albino and Amada Garcia, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms into eternal peace.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Parish – St. Mary’s Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Nate Harburg with interment following at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, August 25, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home. A Vigil Service will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025. Mrs. Gentle will lie in state at the church on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to Our Lady of Peace Parish.
