Maria Lucia Hackworth, affectionately known as "Moe" by her friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024, in Canton, Michigan. Born on December 21, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, Moe's vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of everyone she met.
Moe was the cherished daughter of the late Medardas and Erna Bavarskas, and she carried the warmth of her family's love throughout her life. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Randy "Crabs" Hackworth, and her sister, Lukretia Williams. Moe's enduring legacy of love is carried on by her beloved sister and best friend, Aldona "Toni" (John) Kish, her brother, Al (Donna) Bavarskas, and her adored nephews and nieces: Evan Bavarskas, Jordan (Alyssa) Bavarskas, April (Will) Wehner, and their children Mia, Remi, Arla, and Ava, who all knew her as their doting great-aunt.
Moe's professional life was marked by dedication and camaraderie during her 30-year tenure at General Motors. She was not only valued for her work ethic but also for the friendships she cultivated and the lives she brightened within the organization. Moe's effervescent personality extended beyond her career into her active social life, where she was a proud member of the "Unofficial" Red Hat Club and a cherished part of the Road Agents motorcycle club community through her late husband.
Her interests reflected the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life. Moe loved animals and children, always seeing the beauty and innocence in their spirits. Music was a source of great joy for her, and she could often be found enjoying free summer concerts in the park, where the melodies danced with her soul. An epicurean at heart, Moe delighted in going out to eat, savoring the experience of food and the company of others. She also enjoyed trying her luck at Bingo.
Those who knew Moe would describe her as kind, thoughtful, and loving-a woman whose generosity knew no bounds and whose kindness left a lasting impression. She approached life with a gentle heart, always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. Her laughter was infectious, her smile a beacon of warmth, and her presence a comfort to all.
As we bid farewell to Moe, we celebrate a life lived with an abundance of love and joy. Her spirit, characterized by a profound kindness and an unwavering love for her family and friends, will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Maria Lucia Hackworth will be deeply missed, yet her legacy of love and compassion will endure in the hearts of those she touched.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Moe's family will hold her memory dear as they continue to walk in the light of her love. Though she has left this earthly realm, Moe's spirit remains a guiding star to all who loved her. Let us honor her memory by embracing life with the same kindness and love that she so freely gave.
