Maria Z. Missimer, 75
Maria Zevallos Missimer passed away on January 29, 2025. Born in Lima, Peru, she made Florida her home for 33 years. She was a devoted advocate for her family and had a deep passion for painting, sculpture, crafts, and all forms of art. Maria was a social worker, a relentless champion in the fight against domestic violence, substance abuse, and child abuse, dedicating her life to making a difference.
Mrs. Missimer was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Cesar Zevallos and Zoila Zavaleta de Zevallos.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Anthuanette Hidalgo, Leslie H. Cendejas and Nathalie H. Champion, and mother-in-law to Juan Cendejas and Matthew Champion. Maria's greatest joy was her grandchildren, Kamilly Hidalgo, Isabelle Cendejas, and Gabriel Cendejas, whom she adored deeply.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass celebrating Maria's life will take place on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 902 SW Sixth St. Okeechobee, FL 34974. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, 1274 NE 39th Blvd, Okeechobee, FL 34972. Immediately afterward, family and friends are invited to gather for refreshments at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
