Maria E. Morales, age 88, a longtime Bridgeport resident peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday August 11, 2024 in Bridgeport Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Luis R. Morales. Maria was born in Puerto Rico on January 1, 1936 the daughter of the late Gonzalo and Tomasa (DeJesus) Cotto.
She was the owner and chef at La Cagüeña Restaurant in Bridgeport and was known to make specialty dishes such as Rice & Beans and her world renowned Flan dessert. Her passion for cooking and serving people in her community was appreciated by all of those that knew her. Most important of all to Maria was spending time with her loving family.
Maria is survived by her children Michael Morales and his wife Michele and Alexander Morales and his wife Margaret, her grandchildren Alexander Morales, William Morales, Christina Cortio and her husband Adrian, Debra Lynne Morales, Stephanie Murphy, Sean Murphy, James Hill, and Caroline Torre, her great grandchildren Roslyn Cortio and Julius Carrion, and her siblings Cruz "Manny" Cotto, Carmen Patron and Maria Knight. She was predeceased by her brothers Carlos Cotto, Peter Cotto, Francisco Cotto, Nuno Cotto and Tito Cotto.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday from 4 PM to 7 PM in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton. Her funeral service will begin at 6:30 PM in the funeral home. Online condolences can be left for Maria's family at www.riverviewfh.com.
