Marie Richard Bohanan

Marie Richard Bohanan, 90, widow of James Bohanan, passed away June 2, 2025, at Homestead Manor in Lexington, KY. Marie was born to the late William Henry Richard and Christine Foster Richard on January 20, 1935, in Sharpsburg, KY. She attended Mt Sterling High School. After marrying James Bohanan, she moved to Georgetown where she became a homemaker. She was later employed at Georgetown College before starting an in-home day care. Soon afterward she attended Georgetown College and received a BA in Elementary Education. She founded Rampart Christian Academy where she was an administrator and teacher. Marie was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed the ocean, picnics and reading. She was wonderful with children and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed watching UK basketball and Lexington Legends baseball. Marie was a woman of unshakable faith in God. It was the cornerstone of her life, always guiding her life and decisions. For nine years she was a caregiver for her grandchildren, Hadley and Katherine Bohanan. It was one of the highlights of her life.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda (Zac) Carter of Lexington, KY, James Michael (Mary Stan) Bohanan of Lebanon, OH, three siblings, Robert Mason Richard, Patricia R. Zerkle, Michael Steven Richard, two grandchildren, Hadley (Olivia) Bohanan and Katherine Bohanan and one great granddaughter, Charlotte Grace Bohanan.
Besides her husband and parents, Marie was preceded in death by her great grandson, Henry James Bohanan and three siblings, Ben Richard, William Henry Richard Jr, and Barbara Ann Turner.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown, KY. The burial will follow at Georgetown Cemetery with Ed Hambrick, Dale Bretz, Luke Fizer and Hadley Bohanan will serve as pallbearers.
