Jeannie Collins (Glunz was my last name at the time)

I just stumbled upon this while searching people from my past. I went to Park Ave. elementary. I am 50 years old now and my all time favorite teacher was my 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Day. She was the best and one of my fondest memories was whenever anyone accomplished an assignment in reading she would reward the students with Jellybeans. To this day, every time I eat a Jellybean I think of her. I was so blessed to have known such a wonderful person. I remember she always had a big jar on her desk full of Jellybeans just waiting to be handed out as reward. I still have the Curious George book that she signed and gave to me because I completed a reading assignment. She was an angel in my life.

It was a life changing morning when our mother, Lee Yok Sal (Gee) decided she was ready to test for her driver´s license and drove alone from Yuba City and across the bridge, in the hunkering farm work truck, to the DMV in Marysville. Upon arrival, Marie interceded and provided necessary translation. Mom had already demonstrated she could drive (!), but with Marie´s intervention Mom was tested and officially granted her license to drive. Thus began a lifelong friendship.
Growing up, a child would be greatly blessed to have strong role models to emulate. Aunt Marie was one of mine! What a warrior! She absolutely lit up a room with her presence immediately commanding your attention. It was always mesmerizing to listen on as she conversed animatedly and fluently in our parents´ Taiwanese dialect while comfortably shifting back to English for us Gee kids. We honored and showed her our respect by addressing her as "Aunt" as she was definitely considered family and treated accordingly. Aunt Marie was always so sweet, kind and generous in her thoughts and actions giving selflessly of her time and talents, especially when it came to yummy treats whipped up in her kitchen! She set a wonderful example for me and my four siblings.
I can only imagine her broad sphere of influence as a teacher, touching countless young minds and hearts, as well as that of her school staff and parent community. It was through her influence that I, too, became a teacher enjoying a long and fulfilling career in the classroom. It touched me deeply when she and Uncle Jim showed their support by attending an award ceremony honoring my work as a young educator. In my mind, this achievement was a reflection of her continuing influence into my adulthood and I was proud to share it with my mentor and colleague in the classroom, Mrs. Day!
The Gee family, will be eternally grateful for Aunt Marie´s long and deep friendship. We will continue to reflect upon and cherish the many happy memories from decades past. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all family, friends, and community who share in the loss with her passing. Marie lived, loved and laughed leaving a remarkable legacy. Her beautiful family is certainly a testament of that.
Aunt Marie, may you rest in peace.

I spent Is summer of with Auntie Marie when just before I started junior high. When she learned I would be taking home economics...sewing and cooking...she taught me to sew. She taught me about patterns, fabrics, matching plaids and working with wool. She helped me make 3 dresses before I went home. I proudly wore each of them for many years. She really helped me get a head start! All my sewing projects got A's and I continued to sew most of new clothes for myself and my family for years. I still sew, but have turned my interests towards quilting.
Now I'm passing the love of sewing on. Grand-daughter, Ariona, has been sewing clothes and quilting!
I was blessed to have Auntie Marie in my life. I got to share her last birthday with her and my cousins.
Condolences to my Day cousins. Thank you for letting all of us help celebrate Auntie Marie's birthday together.

Mrs. Day was my 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Park Avenue Elementary. If anyone were to ever ask who my favorite teacher was all through school, she is the face that popped into my head. I remember her being so kind and so encouraging. I absolutely loved her. I truly felt like `her child´. Over the years, I have thought of her often. I am truly honored to have been influenced and taught by her during my very early years of school. She will forever hold a place in my heart. My condolences to the family.

I grew up next door to Marie and her lovely family, and I can still vividly picture her working at her kitchen counter and shooing us kids outside and away from whatever goodness she was cooking. I remember her as a strong, kind, and passionate soul, and I was blessed to have her as a presence in my young life.
Our condolences to Jimmy, Janice, Amy and all her loved ones.
