Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother

Marilyn Ann Barthel, 53, died Wednesday, November 24, 2021 with her family by her side after her valiant battle with cancer.

Marilyn was born Jan 10, 1968, in Fargo North Dakota and cared for by parents, Lee and Phyllis Mielke.

In 1989, Marilyn graduated from North Hennepin Community College with an associates degree. She devoted a life to helping many as a financial eligibility specialist at Anoka County for over 20 years and always loved knowing that her work assisted so many in need. She was known by her co-workers for her hard work and never ending smile.

Marilyn married Mark John Barthel on July 28, 1990. The two were each other's lifelong soulmates and friends. They were blessed with four children: Matthew, Alex, Nathan, and Tyler.

She was an avid traveler and loved nothing more than spending time getting lost at the ocean and on the beach. Other hobbies included crafting, wine tasting, reading and spending time with her loving family.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Mark; Children, Matthew (Koryne) and Alex Barthel; Granddaughter, Adelaide; Father and Step mother, Lee and Norma Mielke; Step sisters, Pamela (Pete) Hemken, Leslie (Todd) Redfield; Step brother, Chris (Kristin) Westman; Brother in laws, Mike (Meg) Barthel and Rick Barthel; Sister in law Julie (Dave) Kuzyk; as well as many friends.

She was proceeded in death by her 2 sons, Nathan and Tyler Barthel, Mother, Phyllis Mielke, and grandparents.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 07, at 4 pm-7pm at Washburn-McReavy in Coon Rapids. Memorials can be sent directly to Washburn-McReavy.
