It was an idiosyncrasy of the congenial office of general counsel that the position called assistant general counsel that Marilyn held for so many years was the deputy position. She also served tirelessly, for some time simultaneously, as its acting general counsel, so she was consequential in leadership of legal work and initiatives of the U.S. Copyright Office and administrative oversight of its staff. I was lucky to work nearly a decade with Marilyn, who was thorough, unpretentious and fun while maintaining decorum and formality of public service and administrative law in the Library, and loyal and protective of us both personally and professionally. When things got a little crazy, as they sometimes could with deadlines, rulemakings, reports, testimony, legislation, inquiries, briefs and filings, she would make a quick funny face or small joke to make us laugh, or call out a funny line as she headed back to her office. She spoke often of her parents, and plans to return to Texas when she retired; there was never a doubt in her mind. I know she will be remembered always in our hearts.

We are deeply grateful for the difference Marilyn made to the Pottsboro Library. Her quiet generosity, sharp intellect, and lifelong love of books enriched our work and community in lasting ways. Marilyn believed in the power of libraries, and we are honored to have been part of her story. Her legacy will continue to inspire us.
