Marilyn Meeks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Craig Funeral Home on Jan. 3, 2026.
Marilyn was born on November 22, 1936, in Willoughby, OH, to Julian and Marie Mericle. She grew up with her parents and six siblings until they moved to Miami, FL, in 1947. Marilyn attended St. Mary's Elementary School and later Miami Edison High School. In 1954, she married John Pompi, and together they raised six children in North Miami Beach, FL. After John retired, they spent 20 years living in St. Augustine, FL. In 2002, they built a beautiful home on the St. Johns River. John passed away in 2003. A few years later, Marilyn returned to St. Augustine, where she met and married David Meeks. After David's passing in 2023, Marilyn relocated to Jacksonville, FL, where she lived until her death.
Marilyn earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Miami and her master's degree from the University of Florida. She was a dedicated wife to John and mother of six, with a 25-year career in nursing at the University of Miami Hospital and St. Augustine General Hospital, and in hospital management at St. Luke's Hospital, which later became Mayo Clinic.
She enjoyed sewing, tennis, dancing, boating, and family time, especially cooking during holidays. She was active in the American Cancer Society, Toastmasters, and belonged to the Women's Exchange and Marsh Creek Country Club. She practiced Catholicism.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Pompi; her son, Donald Pompi; her sister, Marcella Rucks; her brothers, Clarence Mericle, Carl Mericle, Albert Mericle (Helen), Roy Mericle; her brother-in-law, Tony Pompi; and her second husband, David Meeks.
She is survived by her sister Janet Podell; daughters Julie and Regina Pompi (John Isakson); sons Daniel (Leslie Green), John (Elizabeth), and Mark Pompi; grandchildren Billy Howell (Sori), Alan Ehmke (Sofia), Julian and James Pompi (Brittany and Robyn), Shelby Ribbink (Alec); great-grandchildren Bella Ehmke, Grace Howell, Elizabeth and Maverick Ribbink; 29 nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law Mary Mericle and Margaret Lullie (Tony).
A visitation will be held at St. Joseph's Historic Catholic Church, 4214 Loretto Road Jacksonville, FL 32223 starting at 10:30AM. A Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11AM.

I have been a family friend to Julie Pompi and her family since we met in North Miami Beach Senior high school where we graduated in 1973. I was very acquainted with her mother Marilyn, father and siblings for many years. I was like part of the family. I was very sad to hear Marilyn's ongoing health issues. However she was always kind, considerate and a passionate mom, wife and worked in the medical field for many years. she was admired by her patients and staff. Personally I will miss Marilyn through the many years we knew each other. May she now rest in peace and live happily in the heavens meeting up with others who have gone before her. She will surely be missed by all her children, grand children and great grandchildren and other family. Her legacy will live on in any one who knew about her in her life. My condolences to the family at this time and sympathy.

Very sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. I was friends with her at the Coves and she was a lovely lady. She will be missed.
