Marilyn VanVleck Obituary
Marilyn Mae Van Vleck, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at her home in Pecatonica. Marilyn was born July 4, 1929, the daughter of Elmer and Ethel (Diedrich) Miller. She was a graduate of Pecatonica High School, the last surviving member of the class of 1947.
Marilyn worked as the receptionist for Continental Telephone in Pecatonica back in the days when there were still party lines.
Marilyn married Donald Van Vleck on March 1, 1968. In January 1971 they moved to Bettendorf, IA for Donald's job with J.I. Case. While in Bettendorf Marilyn worked several positions for Security Bank (later US Bank) and made many lifelong friends. She retired in 1991 and in 1996 they returned to Pecatonica.
She was an active member of Pecatonica United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Marilyn loved her small family. Being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her special source of joy. She could be seen driving around Pec with grand-dog Lily in her lap.
She is survived by her son, Neil (Nancy) Ritter of Pecatonica; step-son, Steven Van Vleck of Pecatonica; grandchildren, Keith (Megan Braun) Ritter of Madison, WI, Kylie (Jason) Yang of Villa Park, IL; step-grandson, Austin (Emily) Van Vleck of Sioux City, IA; step- granddaughters, Shannon and Lindsie; great- grandchildren, Jude and Isla Yang; nephews, Brian (Tressa) Smith of Fox Island, WA and Jan Long of Rockford; and great-nephew, Jared Long.
Predeceased by her parents; sister, Darlene Smith; niece, Jennifer Long; step-daughter, Deborah Van Vleck; and step-daughter-in-law, Mary Van Vleck.
The family thanks with great love and appreciation her care givers, Megan, Kia, Alyssa, Karin and Mary. Sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire care team with Serenity Hospice. Thanks, and blessings for special friend, Melody Kelly for always being there with encouraging support through the many years.
