Marilynn Studer, a lifelong resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, surrounded by her family. She was 86.
Mrs. Studer, born on February 26, 1937, to Mary and Paul Connell, was a beloved and well-known member of the Poughkeepsie area, having gone to St. Mary's School, and ultimately graduating from Poughkeepsie High School in 1956.
She married her sweetheart, Francis X. Studer, on April 4, 1959, at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. They spent 61 inseparable years of married life in the Poughkeepsie area and raised four children: Paul Studer (pre-deceased 2002); Craig Studer; Tracy Golding and husband, Jim; Karen Osterhoudt and husband, Michael. She was loved by all her family, including eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Julia Ferris and husband, Zachary (and great granddaughter Ava), Melanie Studer and her partner, Jesse Wyant, Andrew Golding and wife, Aly (and great grandson Owen), Alexandria Osterhoudt (and great grandson Chase), Bryan Golding wife, Katelyn (and great granddaughter Anica), Jessica Osterhoudt, Chatham Studer and fiancée, Alexa Perrefort, and Bailey Studer, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Marilynn was pre-deceased by her siblings: Paul Connell, and Margaret (Peggy) Donlon.
Marilynn was very active with her children's activities, including being a CYO boy's and girls' basketball coach and junior bowling coach for many years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she traveled to many various scholastic activities during her children's youth. Marilynn enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and Asia with her husband after he retired. She continued that with her grandchildren as well, present at many milestones in their lives. She loved being around children so much, she even worked at Nassau Elementary school kitchen for 12 years from 1972-1984. She was an active member of the Poughkeepsie Women's Bowling Association, being elected to the Hall of Fame in 2006 for her outstanding service in coaching and as a league secretary for decades. She was nicknamed "Twinkletoes" for her unique approach, taking many more than the usual 4 step approach on the lanes. She was also a parishioner of St. Martin De Porres Church in Poughkeepsie.
Cremation took place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial calling hours are Friday, May 12, 2023, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte 9, Hyde Park from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10 am at St. Martin de Porres Church, Poughkeepsie.
