Marion Edward Shoemake March 26, 1948 – June 2, 2025
Mr. Marion Shoemake (Shoe), age 77, of Lexington, NC passed away peacefully Monday, June 2, 2025. He was born in Hartsville, SC on March 26, 1948 to the late Hazel and Mildred Shoemake.
Marion served in the United States Army, September 29, 1967 and received his Honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant E-5 on February 19, 1971 while stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he started working as an NSO officer with the Disabled American Veterans (he was a 100% disabled veteran) from 1972 until he retired on March 31, 1998 where he helped numerous veterans. He also had many hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, making knives, going to gun shows with his son-in-law, David, going to gospel singings, and just spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Knight and Jo Weatherford.
Marion is survived by his loving wife of 57 ½ years, Brenda; his daughters, Joyce (Craig) Quattrin of Sterling, VA and Candace (David) Shaw of Clemmons, NC; four grandchildren, Krystal (Ash) Messina of VA, Haley (Austin) Tysinger of Lexington, NC, Amber Shaw of Lexington, NC and Kyle Quattrin (US Army Germany); and two great-grandchildren. One sister also survives, Ann Huggins of Hartsville, SC.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00am until 12:00pm on July 26, 2025 at Pinedale Christian Church, Winston Salem, NC where he was a member for many years. Visitation will be from 10:00am until 10:45am.
The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at Waddell Nursing Home in Galax, VA and Mountain Valley Hospice of Galax, VA, for taking such great care of Marion during his short time there.
