Marjorie M. Kersch, 102, of Herscher, passed away Monday (Jan. 13, 2025), at the Villas at Herscher assisted living community.
She was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Otto Township, the daughter of Albert and Hilda (Bensema) VanDerVliet. Marjorie married Glenn Wilson in 1942. She later married Joseph Kersch on Dec. 12, 1970, in Bonfield. He preceded her in death July 9, 1980.
Marjorie was a housekeeping supervisor at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a master quilter and enjoyed quilting and teaching quilting. Marjorie enjoyed traveling, reading and antiquing. She was a charter member of the NQA and one of her first memories was Lindbergh flying over the Atlantic Ocean.
She was a member of Bonfield Evangelical United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, David (Donna) Wilson, of Sonora, Calif., Bruce (Nadine) Wilson, of Seminole, Texas, and Dennis (Marianne) Wilson, of Wentzville, Mo.; stepson, Leon (Patty) Kersch, of Bourbonnais; one stepdaughter-in-law, Kay (Joie) Kersch, of Herscher; two sisters, Marion Williams, of Elkhart, Ind., and Christine (Gerry) Meyer, of Kingston, Tenn.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; numerous stepgreat- grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; ex-husband, Glenn Wilson; second husband, Joseph P. Kersch; infant son, Barton Wilson; stepdaughters, Delores Lambert and Violetta Chandler; stepsons, Raymond Kersch and Joey Kersch; stepdaughter-in-law, Pat Kersch; grandson, Troy Wilson; and brothers, Junior VanDerVliet and Herbert VanDerVliet.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, until the 11 a.m. funeral service, both at Bonfield Evangelical United Methodist Church in Bonfield. Interment will follow in Bonfield Cemetery in Bonfield.
Memorials may be made to the Bonfield Evangelical United Methodist Church or the Herscher Fire Department.
