Marjorie Marie Parr Martin, 88, of Lockport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by family.
Marjorie was born in Lockport on May 27, 1937, the oldest daughter of seven to the late Dewey E. and Gladys (Guidry) Parr. On October 29, 1955 she was united in marriage to Russell Peter Martin, Sr. at Holy Savior Church. They shared 67 years of marriage until his passing on May 22, 2022.
A lifelong resident of Lockport, Marjorie graduated in 1955 from Lockport High School. She began her career working for SAB Trucking Co. as a bookkeeper. While raising a family, she pursued a career in teaching, graduating from Nicholls State University in 1974. During her 26 years of teaching, she had a passion for directing and making costumes for the plays, led them in many 4-H activities, and spent many recesses teaching student how to cross stitch.
Marjorie was also an excellent seamstress spending timeless hours altering, mending, sewing and creating patterns to fit the needs of her customers.
Marjorie was a devoted member of Holy Savior Catholic Church where she generously shared her time and talent in many capacities.
She is survived by: three children, Jane Meaux (Timmy) of Lockport, LA, Lynne Brooks (Buck) of Holts Summit, MO and Russell Peter Martin, Jr. (Kara) of Gretna, LA; four grandchildren, Ryan Meaux (Angie), Zachary Brooks, Thea Brazan (Bryce) and Owen Martin; two great granddaughters, Lila and Adalyn Meaux; her siblings, Dewey Parr (Ann), Judy Richardel (Claude), Paul Parr, Eve Adams (Mike) and Mark Parr.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Russell Peter Martin; her parents and brother, Richard Parr.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Holy Savior Catholic Church or Lockport Branch of the Lafourche Parish Public Library.
Family and friends are invited to attend the services. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Holy Savior Little Church, Lockport, LA. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am with burial to follow in Holy Savior Cemetery.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and forever remembered for her warm heart, happy smile, cards of encouragement and lemon pies.
