Mark Thomas Campbell, 64, of Merrimack, NH, passed away surrounded by family, on Thursday November 21st, after a 13 year battle with kidney disease.
Mark was born on December 22nd, 1959, to Theresa Campbell (Head) and Frank Campbell in San Antonio, TX on Hanscom AFB. He later moved to Lowell, MA with his mother and siblings. The family eventually settled in Dracut, MA with his stepfather Abe Surkis and step-siblings.
Mark graduated from Dracut High School in 1978. He went on to college and graduated from the University of Lowell, now known as UMASS Lowell. While attending the university he worked at Sanders and was a special for the Hudson PD. He later transferred to the Litchfield Police department where he worked as an Officer for many years part time while still working at Sanders full time. After working at Sanders for 10+ years he went on to become a full time Police Officer for the Town of Litchfield.
In 1986, Mark met his future wife, Sharon Macie, at Sanders. Mark and Sharon went on to have a wonderful marriage of 37 years and two children, Jessica and David.
After changing his career path to software programming, he relocated his family to Atlanta, GA shortly after the 1996 Olympics. While living in GA, he would take family trips to FL almost every weekend to spend time with his brother, sister-in-law and their children. Mark loved learning new computer gaming strategies, going on date nights in Downtown Disney, and having adventures with the children. He returned to NH where he was brought on as a consultant for Fidelity Investments and later hired on as an employee.
He had a passion for volunteering and would get the whole family involved. He received several volunteer of the year recognition awards from Fidelity and also received an award from Senator Jeanne Shaheen recognizing his volunteer efforts.
Mark was involved in the Boy Scouts when his son joined and helped spearhead their largest fundraiser, affording all scouts the ability to attend any camp or activity of their choosing. He continued to help as much as possible and was proud to see his son become an Eagle Scout.
Some of his fondest memories included Summers spent helping on his Aunt and Uncle's farm with his cousins, time spent at camp in the Berkshires, or adventures on Baker's Island.
Mark treated everyone with overwhelming kindness and compassion. He believed in you, even if you didn't believe in yourself. He had a great sense of humor that transcended all ages. As he often would say "I would walk 5 miles for a good joke, 15 for a really good one." He loved playing video, card, and board games with his beloved wife. Some of their favorites included cribbage, Pictionary, and staying up until 2am playing Super Mario Bros because you couldn't save the game back then.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, sister Joan and nephew Shawn. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his son, David, his daughter, Jessica, her husband, Jesus, their children, Adalaide, Evangeline, Henrique, his brother, Joseph, his sister-in-law, Susan, their children Katy, Joey, Billy, Mike - their spouses and several great nieces and nephews. His sister Mary and her son, Kyle. His niece Rachel, her husband and their children. and many cousins.
