MARK STEVEN CARR
Pinson, TN: Mark Steven Carr, age 73, passed away December 1, 2024, at Christian Care Center of Medina.
He was born August 18, 1951, in Bloomington, IL, the son of the late Guy Robert and Doris Mae Thomas Carr. He was a 1969 graduate of Bloomington High School.
He began his railroad career with ICG Railroad in Bloomington and after six years, transferred to Paducah where he worked for four years. In 1980 he moved to Jackson, TN and worked for GM&O Railroad for four years before retiring when the railroad closed.
He then worked as a Millwright Pipefitter for eleven years. He finished his working career in General Industrial Maintenance with Maytag for five years retiring in 1996 due to health issues.
He married Ruth Ridley on December 11, 1987 and they made their home in Chester County.
He was a member of the Eagles Club in Bloomington, IL.
He was saved in 1994 at Bethel Baptist Church at Chickasaw and became an active member of the Highlands Church in Finger, TN.
He loved taking care of his home, fishing, hunting, watching old movies, and enjoyed the holiday season.
He was a devoted husband and father and especially loved raising his sons and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Carr is survived by his wife, Venita Ruth Ridley Carr and two sons, Tyler Steven Carr (Lindsey) of Jackson and James Brent Weeks (Stephanie) of Pinson; one grandchild, Taylor Kyle Weeks; a brother, Rick Carr (Renee) of Austin, TX and a sister, Pam Gates (Craig) of Bloomington, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Brodie Alexander Weeks, and a brother, Marty Carr.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Brodie Weeks Memorial Scholarship by going to cfwtn.org and clicking on “start giving” then choose Brodie Weeks Memorial Scholarship. Or donations may be mailed to: Community Foundation of West Tennessee, 74 Directors Row, Jackson, TN 38305 put “Brodie Weeks Memorial Scholarship” in the memo Line.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Lindsey Carr officiating. Burial will follow at Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday.
