Mark E. Claassen, 63, of Albert Lea, tragically passed away on August 18, 2024, in Lake Mills, IA.

Born on October 4, 1960, in Minneapolis, was the beloved son of the late Edward and Mary (Owen) Claassen. Raised in Albert Lea, Mark was a proud graduate of Albert Lea High School, where he excelled athletically, particularly in basketball. His infectious sense of humor and love for life endeared him to all who knew him. For over 20 years, Mark worked diligently at Silgan Containers, LLC, in Savage, MN, demonstrating unwavering dedication and commitment to his work. Mark's warm presence and love for his family were unmatched. His greatest accomplishment in life was his children, and his heart swelled with love for his precious grandchildren.

Known for his early morning risings, Mark would greet each day before the sun, ready to face whatever challenges or adventures lay ahead. Mark was a social butterfly, relishing in the opportunity to meet new people and engage in meaningful conversations. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it be on the golf course at Green Lea Golf Course or attending hockey games with his son Alex and cheering on the Minnesota Wild.

An eternal optimist, Mark found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as gathering around a bonfire, spending days on the boat, or riding around on his scooter. His zest for life and genuine kindness touched the lives of all those around him. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30PM on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services, with a visitation to be held from 12:00PM-2:30PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery.

Those left to cherish Mark’s memory include his three children, Jade (Tony) Walk, Alex Claassen, and Courtney (Tyler) Jacobson; grandchildren, Soren and Brooks Walk; sister, Marilyn Claassen; several cousins, many extended family members and countless friends. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Claassen.
