I was so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. I shared with my mother ( who lives out of state) and she asked that I share her condolences for "such a wonderful, helpful caring man". ( one guess as to who helped her when she was visiting us and got locked out of our house while we were away).
When I think of Mark I remember all the mornings he walked to pur neighbor Coda's house and picked up her paper and walked it up to the door for her. I can see his dog Jack running around in gleeful circles. I can see Mark smiling and wishing me good morning. I enjoyed our chats before I got into my car and drove to work...when I was running late I was a little disappointed I missed this ritual. The stairs in our bathroom? Mark fixed those ...our neighbor's beautiful front gate with the cut out metal design? Mark built that. I told my kids when they were younger , if for any reason there's some odd situation and were not here and you have a problem go to the Deeds on the corner ( or next door to Ms. Jen). He never drove by without waving hello. Houses can stand in a row but kind? Intelligent , friendly neighbors like Mark and Ann make it a community.

Always the generous neighbor, Mark never hesitated to volunteer a hand with a home project or to give me handyman advice. We loaned each other tools over the many years as neighbors, enjoyed a few meals with families and holiday celebrations in the Deed's yard. Mark was a great example of what a good neighbor is, and our neighborhood will be a bit less without him.

My first memory of Mark was the day we moved into our house which is across the street from the Deeds. It was pouring down rain, Mark ran across the street and helped us get the final boxes inside out of all the rain. We were so grateful, and it was a very good welcome to the neighborhood. Mark will be missed dearly.
