Dr. Mark Michael Edward Maslovich, of Alma, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024. Mark was born on June 3, 1964, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to Walter and Marlene (nee Lykoff) Maslovich. Mark's greatest joy in life was serving others. He attended the University of Western Ontario where he realized and achieved his dream of becoming a physician. Mark worked as a family doctor in Kapuskasing, Ontario, for 2 years before entering his OBGYN residency at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He leaves a legacy of excellence, unwavering dedication, and compassionate care for all of his patients and colleagues in central Michigan.
On September 2, 1995, Mark and Renu were married in London, Ontario. They enjoyed 28 years of marriage while raising their children, Emily and Liam in Alma. Mark was a superhero for his children - a constant source of love, support, and inspiration. Throughout his life Mark had many hobbies. He was a fabulous cook, gardener, gifted vocalist, pianist, athlete, and artist. Tending to his hobby farm brought him great joy. Mark also enjoyed participating with the Gratiot County Players and was an avid supporter of the Gratiot County Fair for Youth. Mark loved his community and enjoyed generously sharing his talents with many local organizations.
Mark will be loved and cherished forever by his wife Renu, children Emily (Trace Kuberski) and Liam, mother Marlene, brothers Randy (Laura), Christopher, and Terry (Jodi), nephew Ethan, niece Madelyn, mother-in-law Leela Varkey, brother-in-law Joe Varkey, and many extended family and friends around the world.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Walter, father-in-law Dr. George P. Varkey, grandparents Harry and Anna Maslovich, Sam and Eleanor Lykoff, Stan Ramsay, and uncles Phil Lykoff and Steve Maslovich.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11 am at Masonic Pathways, Doig Chapel. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4-7 pm at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. Renu, Emily and Liam, may God grant you strength and His peace in your time of grieving. Know that your husband and father was loved by many and will not be forgotten. I was overjoyed when he joined our OB/GYN faculty as he had excellent skills, loved to teach, and above all radiated God´s love to all.

Throughout the last 40 years, Mark, I, his wife (Renu), 2 kids (Emily and Liam)and his family stayed in touch. Mark was brilliant and talented, but there was so much more to him... I loved him and his family.

He and his family in Windsor had a lively home with 4 boys who had great senses of humour. You were never sure who else would be visiting when you arrived and if there would be prank chaos or just a nice little meal and some piano playing

Mark was great fun in later life too as he raised goats, sheep, and specialty rare rabbits. He also had prized chickens for his own egg supply... he carded his own sheep's wool and occasionally kept some knitting going. He was a devoted family man who even raised the animals with his kids to take to fairs...he was involved in the local 4H club and coached soccer . Both he and Renu were musically talented and brought up their kids in a stimulating environment.

Mark was known to throw extravagant dinner parties and do the cooking himself , and a couple times he donated his cooking services for dinner parties to benefit charity. He was such a valued part of his community , besides being the 'baby doctor'. He was known for his sense of humour, creativity, passions, enthusiasm, and always strove for excellence. As he told his kids, "mediocrity is not an option".

When I visited their home in Alma, he and Renu were so welcoming and always tried to make me feel at home. Mark and i would get busy doing some project ( we even made goat soap with the milk from his goats) and i think i might have provided Renu with a wee break as i kept him busy and she didnt have to keep up with his crazy ideas for a couple days. Renu was such a great support in their team parenting and the tone of reason i am sure on many occasions....lol.. so many memories......

Mark was also a part of the local community theater and his children were also involved with this (I even brought my nephew over there to visit for one of the performances when He and his daughter were actors in "The Music Man. )

These are but a few random memories. My heart aches for the loss of my dear friend, yet i know he is now in the loving arms of our dear Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Mark lived a life trying to act on his beliefs in Christ , rather than just speak of them.

I hope each one of you can experience a friend so caring, thoughtful, generous , a kind soul and unique in their own way......at some time in your life.

My first memory of Mark was when he sang with me at the First Presbyterian Church of Alma. It was one of the many times that we would sing together. We sang at a Kenyan wedding in Lansing MI in 2004, an Indian wedding in London, Canada in 2005, and again at my own wedding in Lansing, MI in 2009. Mark made me smile whenever he and Renu would visit my family in Grand Rapids. I am blessed to have met Mark; he was like a big brother to me. May God rest his beautiful soul with the angels. My children and I will miss you very much. May prayers to Renu, Mark, Liam, and the whole family. May God's angels comfort you. Beatrice Muriithi & Family.

Dr.Maslovich delivered my first child, who is now 24 years old. He was so kind, personable, and proactive with anything concerning. I couldn´t have picked a better doctor. Many can become doctors, but few can also be called friends to their patients. Dr.Maslovich was a step above the rest. My condolences to his wife, children, parents, and extended family.
