Mark Francoeur Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2026.
Mark Francoeur, 68, a resident of Branford, CT passed away on February 23, 2026, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Mark was born on March 7, 1957, in Bridgeport, CT, to the late Norman and Ruth Caraglior Francoeur. Mark is survived by his much-loved companion of 27 years Barbara Brunye of Branford, her children Amy Canth and spouse Jassa, and their children Carter, Aubrey, and Charlotte; and Erich Schatzlein and spouse Lea, and their children Mallory, Maeve, and Warren; all of whom Mark loved and played with as his own. Mark is survived by his siblings Lynette Menchero and spouse Izzy; Marylee Savo, Yvonne Francoeur, Jay Francoeur, Bryan Francoeur and numerous nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews. Mark was predeceased by brothers Norman, Denis, and his brother-in-law Frank Savo. Mark is also survived by Lovie, the lively kitten he never knew he could love so much.

Mark grew up in Devon, was a member of the Grove Circle playground alumni, and graduated Jonathan Law High School in 1975. He was a stand-out multi-sport athlete and a star running back for the Lawmen. Mark also played football for the University of New Haven Chargers in 1975 and helped them notch their first varsity football victory ever, running 117 yards and scoring both touchdowns. He was the team leader in scoring, rushing, and all-purpose yards that season.

Mark continued to be active in area softball and bowling leagues, and in recent years, he had fallen in love with pickleball.

Mark had many interests including but not limited to Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffett, and sports. In recent years, Mark ensured that he and his fellow teammates gathered at least twice a year to swap memories, stories, and laughs.

Mark worked as a mold maker at Delta Tool and Mold in Hamden. His workspace was adorned with a picture of Iwo Jima Memorial and motivational sayings about where cancer could stick it.

Charities Mark supported: Wounded Warriors, Boys Town, St. Judes, and Habitat for Humanity, if you wish to support in his memory.
