Mark A. Lehr was born on November 21, 1959, in Toledo, Ohio to Joseph Sr. and Mary (Gotha) Lehr. As a child, he enjoyed vacationing to East Tawas every summer with his family, along with aunts and uncles and playing outside with cousins and the neighborhood kids. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Ida much of his life, as well as attended Stewart Road Church of God in his last few years. He met his lifelong love, Bonnie Reilly, in high school and started dating shortly after graduating. They were married on May 8, 1981.
Despite being diagnosed with cancer as a young adult, the Lord blessed him and his wife with two children, Jermaine and Jordan. He was well known in the community as he spent over 30 years working as a custodian with Ida Public School, as well as a hairdresser at Sandy's in Ida. In his early years, he enjoyed frequent trips up north to Lewiston with his family, decorating weddings with his wife, listening to Diana Ross and Tina Turner, dancing, his time as a Cub Scout Leader, and watching his boys play sports. In recent years, he loved crafting with his grandkids and teaching them how to draw, playing cards and board games, watching movies, and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Mark was known for his kind-heartedness and compassion for everyone he encountered. He lived by Colossians 3:12, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." He was genuine to the core, sincere, and honest. He had an undeniable gift of making everyone around him feel loved, cherished, and safe. Despite the situation or circumstance, he had an amazing way of being a peacekeeper and always showed much grace to those around him.
Mark is survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert and Delores Reilly, his loving wife of 44 years, Bonnie Lehr; a sister Mary (David) Potter, three brothers Joseph Lehr Jr., Michael (Rebecca) Lehr, Robert (Mary) Lehr; a brother-in-law John (Maria) Reilly, three sister-in-law's Renee Goldsmith, Mary (Robert) Lehr, Corey (Lee) Welling; two children Jermaine (Lynsey) Lehr and Jordan (Jodi) Lehr; five grandchildren Brody, Emmri, Easton, Henry, and Charlie Lehr; twelve nieces and nine nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Joseph and Mary Lehr; a brother-in-law Dennis Goldsmith; one nephew Daniel Lehr.
He battled many illnesses over the years, including heart disease, and passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, in his home. He will be dearly missed by everyone. Family and friends may visit from 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, June 26 at Capaul Funeral Home. He will lie-in-state from 10am until the services at 11:00am on Friday, June 27 at Stewart Road Church of God, followed by the burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Ida.
Memorials can be made to: The America Cancer Society.
