Mark Lane Nelson, 68, of Crooksville, died surrounded by his loving family in the afternoon hours of Sunday, September 7, 2025.

He was born an only child on June 24, 1957, in Newark to Carole (Hinkle) Nelson and the late, Warren Nelson.

Following high school, Mark enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served his country from 1976-1980. Mark was an incredibly hard worker, spending over 30 years with Owens-Corning, where he eventually retired. When not working, Mark could be found working and tinkering on various things around his home. He was a devoted Minnesota Vikings and Ohio State Buckeyes fan and tolerated his family rooting for the Steelers and Wolverines. He was one of the last remaining members of the Black Starlings- a Harley Davidson group based in Newark; he was always ready to ride. Some of the families’ greatest memories were when they would be fishing with Mark, especially on their yearly trips to Farm Lake in Canada.

Mark leaves behind his children, Cayla Hill and Sonny Nelson; his mother, Carole Nelson; his grandchildren, Ronni (Kyle) McGee, Sonni Nelson, Ean Hill and Eli Hill, as well as his great-grandchild, Berkli McGee.

In addition to his father, Warren Nelson, Mark is preceded in death by his sons-in-law, Christopher K. Hill and Ryan Tedrow.

The family has chosen to mourn privately; Mark will be cremated and returned to his family.
