Mark Daniel Scheffer passed away on Wednesday July 12th, 2023 at the age of 70. Mark was born on June 26, 1953 to Nicklas and Claire (Carroll) Scheffer in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his father, Nicklas and is survived by his mother, Claire.
Mark is also survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Susan (Sutton) Scheffer; his brother, Thomas (Mary Massa) Scheffer; his children, Jim (Dawn Smith) Scheffer, Jason Scheffer, Julie (Joe) Anders, and Katie Gray. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Scheffer; and his sister, Nicki (Jim) Hanson.
Mark graduated from Morton High School in Hammond, Indiana in 1971. Shortly after graduation, he began his working career as a pipe fitter at Inland Steel where he worked for 7 years. He then joined his father, Nicklas in the family business, previously known as Dependable Decorating, where they specialized in painting and wallpaper hanging. This was his primary career for 35 years and he was ultimately granted ownership of the business from his father and continued to operate it successfully until his retirement in 2006.
He then began a new career with the Indiana Department of Transportation where he worked in the Maintenance Department for 13 years before finally retiring.
Mark loved spending time with his family, cooking out, and fishing. His "Happy Place" was at a resort on Little Mantrap Lake in Park Rapids, Minnesota where he spent a week each summer for the last 45 years. Out of respect for Mark's wishes, there will be no services held at this time. However, his family will be having a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton, Indiana. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.ee-fh.com
