Mark S. Schmotzer, lovingly known as "Coach", passed away on March 24, 2025, at the age of 71. Born November 26, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio, Mark was the son of the late Elmer and Eleanore (nee Brom) Schmotzer.
Mark was a devoted family man who was always there for his children, especially when it came to their athletic pursuits. No matter how long or demanding his days were as a plant manager, he made sure to be at every game and practice, never passing up a chance to cheer them on and show his support.
Coach had a deep passion for sports, especially watching the NFL, March Madness, and the Kentucky Derby. He was always eager to discuss the latest games and engage in friendly debates about teams and players. His love for sports wasn't just about watching - it was about connecting with others over the shared excitement.
In addition to his dedication as a husband and father, Mark was known for his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor. Whether at the family dinner table or during a friendly game, he had a knack for delivering the perfect one-liner that always brought laughter and light into the room. His competitive spirit, particularly when it came to his love for board games, was legendary, and he always played with a fierce yet playful heart, making each game a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Mark leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and joy. He taught those around him the importance of family, the thrill of a good challenge, and the value of finding humor in everyday moments. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mark's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife of more than 48 years, Jeanne (nee Hrovat) Schmotzer; children, Laura (Christopher) Travers and Brian (Elicia) Schmotzer; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Creighton, Camryn, Ryann, Caroline, and Reagan; sisters, Dora (David) Wrentmore and Mary Jane Silva; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Alison Holmgren; and sisters, Marie Schmotzer and Ruth Mulkins.
The family will welcome guests from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Waite Funeral Home, 3300 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Colette Catholic Church, 330 W. 130th Street, Brunswick, Ohio. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio. Please share condolences on Mark's tribute page at www.waitefuneralhome.com.
