Mark Thomas Obituary

For the past several years, Mark has been bravely and privately battling cancer. It is with a heavy heart that we let you know he passed away on the morning of Sunday, September 15, lovingly surrounded by his family and best friend.
We mourn the loss of a son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Mark lived a wonderfully adventurous life pursuing his passion of wildlife photography. As anyone who ever met Mark would know, he travelled to every continent and beautifully photographed animals from red-eyed tree frogs to great white sharks.
Mark was recognized and published by some of the most prestigious environmental organizations, including National Geographic, National Wildlife Federation, Nature's Best, National Audubon Society, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the Sierra Club. Most notably, his photograph of hummingbirds was selected as a winner of the "Nature's Best Photography" competition and his image hung in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History.
However, the joy that these accolades brought Mark paled in comparison to his love and devotion to wildlife and nature. The world will never be the same without him here, but we are so grateful that he will live on through his art. We could not be more proud of what he accomplished and find comfort knowing he lived the life he wanted to live.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 19th, 7:00pm - 9:00pm with a Prayer Service at 7:30pm all at Landmark Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sierra Club Foundation. If you would like the family to know of your gift, you may list Mary Thomas at
[email protected] as the recipient name to receive notice.
