Mark R. Thoss
Mark, age 67 of Muskego, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 17, 2022.
Mark was born in Milwaukee to Wilbert and Arline Thoss. They must have been so thrilled the day he was born. He was baptized at St Marcus Lutheran Church.
Mark graduated from John Marshall High School class of 1972.
His first job was working at Champion Chicken. He saved every dollar to buy a motorcycle -"the Scrubber". His favorite car was his blue Boss 302 Mustang which you could hear roaring up and down the streets.
Mark met Linda, the love of his life, while still in high school. They went to a haunted house where the two of them fell in love from that point forward. Five years later they took their marriage vows at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on June 17, 1978.
Mark began his career with Caterpillar Tractor after high school as a welder and later became a machinist. From there he went to Model Specialties. He built various prototypes - most notably was parts for the NASA space shuttle, MRI machines at St. Luke's Hospital. He invented a mobile protective medical device that was featured in a Medical Journal article. Mark later brought his skills and talents to Metal Fab Specialties & Southeast Tool & Machine Corp. He was creating and fabricating machining prototypes. Mark was known as a Jack of all Trades.
Mark was most comfortable working with his hands. This included helping build his parent's cabin, making candle brackets for church, various woodworking projects, even a boat & hydroplane. He would build things for fun and recreation as well. Some of those things included building/flying model RC airplanes, making a potato launcher and doing taxidermy. He would often re-invent or rework outdoor gear and accessories. So, if you needed help with something or needed something made - Mark would be your "go to guy".
Water sports were also a favorite. If there was water he was on it or in it. Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving in area lakes and Lake Michigan.
Mark loved the outdoors, whether it was biking or simply walking his dogs through the woods or open fields. He enjoyed camping with family and friends - especially at Camp Li Wi Si Mo.
Mark was an avid hunter for deer, small game animals, pheasants, ducks, geese, turkeys and grouse (if you could shoot them). He would often go with family and friends. Some of which became members of the CHS club that Mark founded. Once there was a time that Mark was no longer the hunter, but was being hunted by a mountain lion on his cousin's farm. Bird hunting was his favorite so he could take along one of his "Golden Girls".
Mark was also a WWII history buff & WWII charter member. His dream plane was the P51 Mustang. He was given the opportunity to sit in the Col. Paul H. Pobereznys Paul I P51, but don't touch anything inside. He was also thrilled to meet "Pappy" Boyington of the Black Sheep Squadron. Mark even got to fly in a WWII Piper Cub plane. Many of his remote control planes he built were WWII replicas.
Mark's name means "A Mighty Warrior", fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life. I Timothy 6:12 - he was definitely a warrior during his battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Never wanting pity or wanting to be a burden. He held onto his Christian faith. Mark felt that his most important job in his life was to love and provide for his family. That is exactly how he lived his life as a devoted husband, supportive dad, and loving grandpa.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Linda (nee Wulz), daughter Karrie (Jared), son James (Christina), grandchildren Alexandra, Austin, Aidan and his loyal companion of his dog Rusty, sister Cheryl (Dennis), his in-laws Mary Ellen, Nancy, John, Mark (Janice), Phil (Jackie). He is predeceased by his parents Wilbert and Arline, brother Gary and in-laws Moe and Mary. Further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
