Mark Albert Wilson (65) of South Berwick, Maine, passed away on February 13, 2024 at Watson Fields in Dover, NH., following a lengthy battle with cancer. Mark fought valiantly until his final days when he knew it was time to say his goodbyes and leave this world with acceptance, peace, and grace. He was a private person, yet he had a truly generous heart when it came to others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mark was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on May 7th, 1958 to Albert and Ruth (Perkins) Wilson. He attended Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, graduating in 1977. He was an honor student and majored in automobile mechanics.
He moved to Maine in 1978 and worked with his father and brother, developing a mobile home park. He then worked at Sprague Electric Company and eventually at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 34 years, retiring as an inspector in 2015. While at Sprague Electric, he met and married Joanne (Lee) in 1981 and they had two children, Sarah and Jonathan. Although Mark and Joanne divorced, they remained lifelong friends until the end.
Mark had a great passion for cars and auto repairs and, after retiring, he enjoyed spending time helping out Bob at Pitbull Automotive, as well as assisting friends and neighbors with home and auto repairs. Mark was a hard worker, a real "tinkerer" and a fixer. He was always quick to lend a hand to family, friends, and anyone in need. He received great satisfaction in giving and in helping others.
Mark found joy in the simple things in life such as hunting and fishing, walking in the woods, and in recent years meeting his friends every day for coffee and conversation. The "Cumbies" crowd will never be the same without him. He valued his friendships dearly and was as loyal as they come. Mark was also most proud of his children, living vicariously through them and telling everyone he knew about their accomplishments.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Ruth Wilson. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Jeanne Wilson of Taiwan, his son Jonathan L. Wilson of Hong Kong, his brother Michael Wilson and wife JoAnne, of Springvale, ME., as well as niece Rachel Wilson Legere, nephew Thomas Wilson, and two grand nephews. He also leaves behind his close friends, Joanne Harrison, Tom Knight, Ron Dubay, Pete Towne, and many others.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Tom and Ron, who gave much of themselves to help and support Mark through these past few years. The family would also like to thank Dr. Barbara Civiello, who gave him the gift of time, and the staff of Wentworth Douglass Hospital, Watson Fields, and Cornerstone VNA, who treated him with the utmost care and compassion.
Mark has requested that there be no funeral. A memorial gathering will be planned for a later time and his ashes spread "someplace beautiful". His wish for you is to live life to the fullest and never take anything for granted. His life reminds us to be good to ourselves and to be good to one another.
