Marlene Francis Burn, 90, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at Lindstrom Senior Living Center in Lindstrom, MN surrounded by her loving family. Marlene's seven-year battle with Alzheimer's disease has come to an end. She has joined her parents, husband Doug, brother Alex "Babe" Vitali, sister Joan Rose Kayfes, good friend Lyle and many close friends and relatives in heaven.
Marlene was born on September 5, 1934, in Chisholm, MN to Alex and Ann Vitali. She married Douglas Hayes Burn in 1956. Douglas was a railroad man who worked for Great Northern and Burlington Northern. Their life included several moves within the Great Northern / Burlington Northern railroad system. The Lord blessed them with three boys. They moved to White Bear Lake, MN in 1972 and Douglas passed away 4 years later in 1976.
Marlene was a lady ahead of her time! Marlene graduated from Chisholm High School and attended the Minnesota School of Business for legal secretary, machine writing and advanced shorthand. Marlene worked for several law firms and eventually started her own company. She eventually sold the company and finished her career as a court reporter working at Ramsey County in St. Paul, MN. She retired in 2010 at 75 years old!
She is survived by her three sons Robert (JoEllen), David and Douglas (Sherry), her brother Jim Vitali and her sister Kathy Mehle.
Marlene was blessed with seven grandchildren, Anthony Burn (Flor), Jack Burn, Samantha Burn, Jadie Hamm (Nik), Alexandra Hoier (Buck), Kristopher Jaeger (Stacey), and Derek Jaeger (Shawnna). Marlene also enjoyed being a great grandmother to seven great grandchildren. Laney Hoier, Charley Hoier, Hayes Hoier, Brock Hamm, Hudson Hamm, Steven Jaeger, and Sylvie Jaeger.
Marlene was an incredible woman. A woman who was never hesitant about a new adventure. She was always full of life and never-ending energy. She also knew heartache and disappointment. A strong woman who never quit.
For those who are on this journey as care partners and caregivers, our family prays for you to understand the disease, have compassion, patience and the wisdom to practice self-care daily.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, 13060 Lake Blvd, Lindstrom, MN. Visitation one hour prior to the Mass at church. A luncheon will follow the service. Interment at St. Mary's of Lake Cemetery, White Bear Lake, MN at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials and gifts to be forwarded to Ecumen Hospice at https://www.ecumen.org/give-now/#.Wg2PXBOPJTZ
