Marlene Gardiner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center - Murray on Jan. 12, 2026.
Marlene Mary Gardiner, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, in West Jordan, Utah. She was born on March 4, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, and lived a life defined by devotion, compassion, and unwavering love for her family.

Marlene shared a beautiful marriage of 49 years with her beloved husband, Bob Gardiner. Their partnership was the foundation of her life and the heart of the family they built together. She was a devoted mother to three children, raising them with the same compassion, integrity, and strong work ethic that guided her own life. Her family was her first great love and her greatest source of pride.

Her professional life reflected her deeply caring nature. Marlene began her career working in the family business, supporting office operations in her early years. Over time, she discovered her true calling-caring for the elderly. What began as work became a lifelong mission. Marlene devoted herself to caring for those who could no longer care for themselves, ensuring they were treated with dignity, respect, and genuine kindness. She approached this responsibility with empathy and purpose, viewing it as sacred work. Her tireless dedication brought comfort to countless lives and left a lasting impact on her community.

Marlene was known for her remarkable work ethic and sense of responsibility. She took great pride in showing up every day, believing that dedication and reliability were reflections of character. Just as notable was her generous heart. She was truly good-natured, the kind of person who would give the shirt off her back if she felt someone else needed it more. She saw the best in people, approached life with optimism, and made those around her feel seen and cared for.

In her younger years, Marlene loved to sew. If someone was looking for "Mom," they could almost always find her at the sewing machine, carefully preparing outfits for Native American dances, never stopping until everything was just right. In retirement, her focus shifted entirely to her family-especially her grandchildren. Of all the memories shared with them, one of her favorite activities was the afternoon nap. These quiet moments, spent resting beside her favorite people, were cherished by all and often brought laughter to the family, who lovingly believed they also helped her catch up on years of lost sleep.

Marlene is survived by her loving husband, Bob Gardiner; her children, Robert (Rachael) Gardiner, Jerome (Paige) Gardiner, and Anita Gardiner; her grandchildren, Enoch Diaz, Elias Diaz, Ezekiel Diaz, and Briggs Gardiner; her siblings, Jeffrey Bedigian, and John Bedigian; and many close relatives and loved ones.

A private celebration of life will be held for Marlene.

Marlene will be remembered for her selfless love, quiet resilience, and steadfast belief that family is everything. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Copper Ridge and Utah Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Marlene over the past eight years.

She will be deeply missed but forever held in our hearts.
