Obituary of Marlene Olson
Longtime Joliet area resident, Marlene Olson, passed away peacefully at the age of 93, Monday evening, October 6, 2025, at St. Joseph Medical Center, surrounded by family. She was born on August 30, 1932, to the late Helen (Schmidt) and Thomas Kearney, in Chicago, where she was raised and educated.
Marlene is the beloved mother of Nancy (Steve) Mores, Marilyn (Larry) Ramsak and Janet (Joseph) Wopinski; loving and devoted grandmother of Brian (Tish), Scott (Jamie) and Matthew Mores, Laurie (Jeff) Theobald, Kerrie (Christopher) Ericksen, Christine (Robby) Lopez, Julie (Chris) Vidmar and Kimberly (Matt) Lee, Jayme (Adam) Vesling, Jessica (Ted) Drakopulos and Jordan Wopinski; proud great-grandma of Oliver, Nathan, Aubrey, Oakley, Wesley, Graham, Bodhi, Emmalyn, Cole, Gavin, Ava, Jay, Carter, Kashton, Camden, Jaxon, Niko, Athena and Audrey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, Irving Olson and six siblings.
Her quick wit and continuous laughter will be missed by all. At 93 she could still beat you playing cards and Scrabble. Her famous apple pie was in high demand and a family favorite! She would randomly call and say, "I've got a pie in the oven", and we knew we were in for a special treat. Often attempted, but never duplicated, the recipe is still a mystery today.
She never missed sending birthday and anniversary wishes and kept every letter or card sent to her. She was quite a puzzler and enjoyed arts and crafts. What brought her most joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
We are grateful for every moment shared and every memory made.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Marlene privately, followed by internment near her beloved husband, Irving, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marlene's name can be made to .
