Marlene Carol Scarlett

May 22, 1952 – October 21, 2025

Marlene Carol (Brandon) Scarlett, 73, entered into eternal rest on October 21, 2025 with her family by her side at Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston, NY. Born on May 22, 1952 to the late Jeanette Jones Brandon and David E. Brandon, Sr., in Kingston, NY. Marlene was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1970. In 2014, she retired from OTB after 39 years.

She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 54 years, Linca A. Scarlett, Sr.; children, David Meeks, NY; Lisa Scarlett, MD; Venolin Scarlett, NY; and Aliesha Scarlett, MD. Five grandchildren, Danesja Meeks, Destiny Meeks, Domanic Ostrander-Scarlett, NY; Layla Scarlett and Linca A. Scarlett III, IA. Two great-grandchildren, DaMya Page-Moore and Julyanna Gray, NY. Sisters-in-law, Fernalee Graham and Verona Lawrence and brothers-in-law, Verley Scarlett and Andrew Scarlett. She also leaves to mourn eight siblings, Rosella (Bob) Curry, FL; Francine Hylton, Alvina (Mark) Francis, NY; Leslie Easter, FL; and Pamela (Troy) Gibson-Mackey, NY; David (Kim) Brandon, Jr., MD; Marlo (Laura Jean) Brandon, Sr., NY and Ronald (Jocelyn) Brandon, Sr., TX. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

Marlene was predeceased by her parents, Jeanette and David E. Brandon, Sr.; her son, Linca, Jr.; sisters, Judith Gaton and Geraldine Blake.

Marlene enjoyed a quiet life. She often liked to say funny things to make the family laugh. Her children always said, "Mom made the best zucchini bread and macaroni and cheese." In her earlier years, she enjoyed crocheting and playing bingo with her friends. She liked to watch game shows and movies, including mysteries and old westerns. She also enjoyed watching sports with her husband. Leanie (as she is affectionately called by her family), loved sleepovers with her sisters. She especially loved traveling to casinos with them and fun times together in the hotel rooms. Before these trips she would visit the salon to have her nails done. Prior to Geraldine's passing, she and her daughter, Jennifer would take Marlene to Atlantic City. Alvina and Mark also made time to take her to enjoy her favorite pastime playing the slots and to watch a show or two.
