Marlene R. "Cookie" Smelko, age 78 of Yorkville, IL passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. She was born on May 17, 1946 in in Chicago, IL the daughter of George and Estelle (Niemiec) Gliszczynski.
Cookie was united in marriage on September 4, 1965 to Eugene Smelko and they have spent the next 59 years happily together. She was a longtime member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Bloomingdale, IL where she also taught CCD. Cookie was employed for many years in district #93 as a secretary. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends.
Cookie is survived by her husband, Eugene Smelko of Yorkville, IL; Jennifer (John) Evans of Oswego, IL, Rich (Michelle) Smelko of Elgin, IL, Jeff (Kristen) Smelko of Oswego, IL; her grandchildren, Brooklyn and Savannah Evans, Tristan and Leighton Smelko, Joey and Nicholas Smelko; her brothers, Robert (Cher) Gliszczynski of Huntley, IL, Ronald (Judy) Gliszczynski of Hanover Park, IL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Estelle Gliszczynski.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 Walnut Street, Yorkville, IL. Interment will follow in St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery in Niles, IL.
Friends may visit from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL.
