Marlys Arlene (Chapman) Pischke was born at home on September 14, 1937 in Waubay, SD to Violet C. (Holscher) and Delbert T. Chapman. She grew up and went to school in Waubay.
She met Florian Pischke in her teen years and fondly talks about how many dances and wonderful times they had, how he was so bashful he could barely speak, and that she loved him dearly. Florian and Marlys were wed on September 26, 1955, and their love has been a shining example to everyone who has had the wonderful fortune of being in their lives. This past September was their 68th wedding anniversary.
Marlys and Florian shared a beautiful life on their dairy farm south of Webster, SD. There they raised four wonderful children and were surrounded by great friends and neighbors. They loved having family dinners and spending time at the racetrack with Roger and Anita Swenson. These years were filled with hard work, happy times, and enough stories to fill the dinner table for years to come. After raising their children Marlys obtained her GED and started working at ALCO in Webster.
After retiring from farm life, the couple moved to Watertown, SD in 1995. Marlys worked for several years at Menards. You could also find her playing bingo, at a penny or nickel machine, or cheering on Nascar driver Chase Elliott and kicking one leg in the air as she yelled "go Chase go."
Marlys was one of a kind. She was full of life, love, and about as clever as they come. She loved spending time with family and always had them in fits of laughter and delight with her numerous stories, but they will tell you her love for others was her brightest attribute. Marlys loved people entirely, often opened her home to others, and had the heart of a servant. Anyone who had the opportunity to know her, was a better person for it. She simply was the best of us and is going to be missed greatly. As she neared the end of her life she was excited to "be with her Jesus" and let us know she was ready to go. She had accomplished what she wanted, believed she had the most wonderful family, and left this world peacefully at the age of 86 on June 22, 2024.
Marlys is survived by her husband, Florian; children, Jodie (Curt) Henry, David (Maria) Pischke, Jan (Patrick) Roberts, and Dan Pischke; nine grandchildren, Amanda (Megan) Bremmon, Matthew (Paulina) Cacchiotti, Katie (Travis) Gaffer, Michelle (Idir) Tamani, Mariah (Travis) Theel, Megan Cacchiotti, Nikki Gibson, Kylie (Bradley) Covey, and Sally Henry; nine great-grandchildren, Ava Anderson, Jordy and Jayda Frasier, Odin Hulderson, Liam and Mila Cacchiotti, Elliott Tamani, and Ridge and Rhett Theel; her sister, Kaye Carlisle; and sisters-in-law, Estelle Kaiser and Lois Chapman.
Marlys is preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Lavonne Karcher, Shirley Rumpza, Gary Chapman and Delbert "Butch" Chapman.
