Marsha Dean met her savior on November 29th, 2024, after a long battle of various health issues.
Born to Dene and Don Smith on November 22, 1958, Marsha grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma along with her sister Janet. She went to Edmond Memorial High School where she twirled baton her junior and senior years and won the title of Band Queen her senior year. In 1978, Marsha attended Oklahoma State University and marched in the band, playing flute and piccolo, for three years before transferring to Central State University (UCO), acquiring her Bachelor's in Business Administration.
In the late 1980s, Marsha and Phil met at a conference and started dating; their first date was 7 hours at an Oklahoma State football game-Go Pokes! 6 months later, they married in April 1988. Marsha married into being mom to Michele and Courtney; Elise came into the picture two years later.
Marsha enjoyed playing the flute, crocheting, and baking but her biggest passion was quilting. She played in the orchestra at First Baptist Church of Edmond, First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City in the 1980's and continued playing for many years at Henderson Hills Baptist Church while the girls grew up. She always encouraged music in the family. In the early aughts, Marsha started working one day a week at a quilt shop to help support her quilting hobby. Initially, instead of money, she would be paid in fabric. She started working at Sooner Quilts around 2007 where she continued working until 2023. Marsha was a gifted quilter and made more quilts than can be counted over the years. She blessed many family and friends with quilts marking special times in their lives.
Phil and Marsha found a joy in traveling to Hawaii. They went three times over their 36 years of marriage. Once without the girls, once in 2007 for the Maui Invitational to watch OSU play, and finally a Hawaiian cruise in 2016.
She is preceded in death by her parents Don and Ollie "Dene" Smith. She is survived by her husband, Phil, daughters: Michele, Courtney, and Elise, son-in-law: Denton, grandchildren: Cora, Graham, Eleanor, and Hannah, and her sister and brother-in-law: Janet and Ken Herrold, respectively.
Her service will be held at Faith Bible Church in Edmond, Oklahoma on Thursday, December 5th at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please bring pictures of quilts she made (if you have one) and we can add it to our collection.

Oh, Phil! We are so so sorry to hear about Marsha´s passing. We are shocked & sad for you & sad for your girls. We don´t take the newspaper any more & we had Kevin & his family visiting us from Canada during Thanksgiving so I wasn´t checking Facebook. We would´ve for sure reached out to you & attended her memorial if we´d known. After Debbie passed, we thought you´d be single for a long time, but then you met sweet Marsha & she healed your broken heart. Please reach out to your girls & your friends for comfort. We all love you!

Meet Marsha at Quiltworks Camp. I loved her laugh and quilting with her. She made so many beautiful quilts. Still have the bag she made me and so many other quilters. She will be missed.

I met Marsha at a quilt camp at the OKQuiltworks shop. I remember her as a lover of quilting and I will always remember her famous no-bake cookies. They were always so good... perfectly made and shared with love.
I am sad for this loss in your lives. Marsha was sweet, kind and will be remembered by so many friends.
