Marsha Irene Shipman Kanapaux, 73 of Wilmington
Our world is less bright with the death of Marsha Kanapaux. She left our sight for her eternal home on August 21,2024.
Marsha was born in Wilmington NC to Frances Goff Newton and William Byron Shipman whom predeceased her along with siblings Kevin Newton,William Shipman Jr. and Brenda Bell.
Her greatest contribution to this world is her Son, Jason P. Kanapaux loving called her OPUS. Her bonus children Pamela Arnold and Shawn Kanapaux are left to cherish her memory. Marsha was part of a big family with surviving siblings whom she loved dearly. Sandra Cayton, James Newton, Jackie LaBrecque, Greg Newton, Faye Byrd, Robert Shipman and Mike Shipman. Many nieces and nephews will miss her presence in their lives.
A large family that got tired of meeting at hospitals and funerals, we changed that several years ago with a tradition that continues today. Monthly Family Dinners were organized by Marsha to keep us close as we grew in all directions.
Many special people will cherish her memory. She was affectionately known as OMA, AG and IZZY depending on which " grandchild" you were speaking with at the time.
Marsha played handbells and the piano. She was a lover of books and research. She knew a lot about Everything or thought she did. She loved playing Scrabble and Bingo. She was the Crochet Queen with the oxygen machine. Most everyone has a keepsake made by her hands. A strong willed woman that spoke her mind. Her strong spirit and Faith in God kept her going when lung cancer came her way. She gave it to The Lord and never mentioned it. Despite her challenges she kept her genuine loving, caring,giving spirit alive.
After all these years of being fiercely independent she finally learned to " never turn down money or food!"
A retired Walmart Warrior that never met a stranger. A great talker indeed that had the last word even in death. You Win!
It's not Goodbye but See you later. Rest easy Wheezy!
A memorial service will be held Wednesday September 4, 2024 at 4:00 PM in Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
